Direct cremation is a simple, low-cost funeral that many families opt for as an alternative to tradition. A direct cremation funeral is usually unattended, but Aura also offers attended services at a numer of crematoria across the country.
With an Aura unattended cremation, we collect the person who has died from where they’ve passed away and bring them into our care at state-of-the-art mortuary facilities.
From there, we bring them to the crematorium privately, words of respect will be spoken by the attendant and the cremation will take place shortly after.
If you’d like an elegant and concise cremation but feel you need the opportunity to see your loved one off at the crematorium, Aura also offers the option of an attended direct cremation service.
We offer a 10-minute service for up to 15 attendees, or a 40-minute service for as many people as can be held by the crematorium chapel.

According to figures provided by SunLife’s Cost of Dying Report 2024, the average cost of a funeral in the UK in 2023 was £4,141. Funerals all have certain compulsory costs, but many of the fees associated with them are avoidable. A direct cremation allows you to avoid most of those extra expenses, offering choice over tradition.
A funeral is the name for the event by which we mark the passing of someone from life into death. Hence, a direct cremation with no mourners present and nobody presiding over a ceremony is still a funeral. A funeral service is the part of the funeral that is handled by a celebrant, and will normally contain stories about the person who has died, as well as music and words that were dear to them.
We will work quickly and efficiently to bring the person who has died into our care as soon as possible. Once they are resting with us at state-of-the-art mortuary facilities, it can take up to two weeks for the funeral to proceed. However, before a cremation date can be arranged, the legal paperwork must be in place, including from the family, doctor or coroner, and registry office. We will always aim to work as quickly as we can, supporting you with all of the paperwork, and keeping you in the loop every step of the way.
Aura offers two options regarding the ashes of your loved one. We can either hand-deliver them to your door personally, in a durable scatter-tube. This means that they will be ready to be placed in a location dear to your loved one. Or we can scatter their ashes on your behalf at the crematorium’s own garden of remembrance – whatever they would have preferred. Please be aware that hand-delivery of ashes is included in the cost of a funeral plan, but comes at an extra cost to those who arrange a funeral without a plan in place.
