What is an Unattended Cremation?

Jameson family photographs

An Aura unattended cremation, otherwise known as a ‘direct cremation’, is a simple, more affordable alternative to a traditional funeral.

We respectfully transport the person who has died in a private ambulance from where they’ve been resting, to the crematorium on the day of their cremation.

It lets you avoid the typical formalities of a traditional funeral and spares you from unnecessary expenses.

With Aura, there’s no fuss, and no formality – just a respectful farewell on your terms, your way.

Our Direct Cremation Process

1. We’re ready to listen

If a loved one of yours has recently died, or if they are nearing the end of their life, we’ll gladly help you to make the arrangements. The first step is to give us a call.

2. Collecting your loved one

We don’t need to collect your loved one immediately, so please take your time in saying your goodbyes. Once you’re ready for us, we’ll bring them into our care.

3. Supporting you and your family

Whilst your loved one is resting safely in our state-of-the-art mortuary facilities, we’ll guide you through all the legal paperwork, ensuring the cremation can go ahead smoothly.

4. A chance to say farewell

We know that it’s important for some families to say goodbye at a ceremony before the cremation. If you would like, we can help you to arrange a simple, low-cost ceremony at a local crematorium.

5. The cremation

For those without a ceremony, we’ll make sure to let you know at what time the cremation will take place, so that you can have a moment of quiet reflection to yourself.

6. Your loved one’s ashes

Depending on what you’d like, we can either hand-deliver the ashes to you at home within 21 days. Or we can scatter them respectfully on your behalf at the crematorium’s own Garden of Remembrance.

There are two big advantages with Aura’s unattended cremations. The first is that you only pay for what you need. And the second is that they are much easier to organise, leaving less stress for the family. Our Angel team will take care of everything, letting you focus on being with family and being present in the important moments.

An Aura unattended cremation allows the necessary matters to be taken care of with minimal fuss, opening the way for a much more uplifting and positive celebration of life later, once you have had some time to time to breathe and face the initial stages of bereavement.

Unattended Cremation FAQs

An unattended cremation is an ever more favoured, cheaper funeral option that differs from tradition. We simply transfer the person who has died to our state-of-the-art mortuary facilities from the place of death. Then, when the time comes, we transport them privately to the crematorium where they are cremated.

Direct cremation is a lot cheaper than a traditional funeral. That’s because the expensive formalities like hearses or floral tributes are left to the side. It also provides another choice for people who’d like to avoid tradition, if that’s not something that suits who they are.

Certainly – with Aura, that’s no problem. Direct cremations normally don’t have any attendees, but we offer two ‘attended’ options for those who’d like to have friends and family near: ‘Intimate Farewell’ and ‘Fully Attended’. Our ‘Intimate’ option allows up to 15 loved ones to be there for a short service. For the ‘Fully Attended’ option, as many guests as the crematorium can hold are able to attend a service of up to 45 minutes.

Of course we can. Just tell your current funeral director you’ve decided that you’d like us to look after you. Once you’ve settled any outstanding fees with them, we will immediately arrange to bring your loved one into our care.

For an additional fee, we can personally hand them to you at your door in a durable scatter-tube. This easily prepares the ashes to be disbursed in a place that was special to your loved one. Or, if you would prefer, we can simply scatter them for you at the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance.

If you don’t currently have a funeral plan in place and are looking to arrange one, it may be possible for us to arrange a viewing of your loved one at a Chapel of Rest before their cremation ceremony. If you’d like to find out more about this, get in touch with a member of our team on 0800 808 5723.
