Sometimes the best way to find out the answer to something is to speak to someone. If you’d like to do that, you can either fill in the form with your question and we’ll get back to you, or give us a call and one of our team will gladly assist you.

Before you do that, though, it might be worth checking to see if we’ve already answered your question in an FAQ below.

Aura Funeral Plans

No problem, you can cancel at any time at no cost. We’ll then provide a full refund within 14 days of receiving your request.

That’s very unlikely but if we couldn’t deliver on your plan we’d look to put an alternative provider in place or offer a full refund. The money that you pay to us is protected in a trust that’s managed independently from both Aura and the Funeral Services Provider.

Your Nominated Representative can choose to either pay the balance or cancel the plan and have the money you have paid refunded to your estate.

This person can be anyone you trust to be our point of contact when you die. When that happens, they’ll get in touch with us to help arrange next steps with our Funeral Services Provider and work closely with your Aura Angel to make sure all their questions are answered.

Our Funeral Services Provider is Distinct Cremations Ltd, part of the Westerleigh Group. They’re one of the largest providers of crematoria in Great Britain. We’ll liaise with Distinct Cremations on behalf of your family to arrange collection and care of your body after you die. They’ll also carry out the cremation and return the ashes to your Nominated Representative by hand within 21 days of the cremation.

Distinct Cremations Ltd T/A Distinct Cremations. Company number: 13366310. Oak Tree Court, Brookfield Drive Cannock, WS11 0JN / 0808 296 7878 info@distinctcremations.co.uk

When you pay for an Aura funeral plan, the money for your funeral is put into a safe and secure trust. This is managed by independent trustees separate from Aura. The trustees look after this money on your behalf until it is needed to pay for your funeral.

If you’re struggling to pay, just get in touch. We’ll work with you and do everything we can to keep the plan affordable. If you miss two payments, we’ll write to you within five business days of the second missed payment and ask you to contact us. If we don’t hear from you after that, we may cancel the plan. Find out more in our full Terms and Conditions.

Just get in touch by phone or email. There’s no fee for making a change and you’ll only pay extra if you upgrade your plan.

Just let us know. If you opt for an attended cremation and have already told us your preferred location, you can still change it. If you haven’t selected a preferred location then your nominated representative will choose one after you’ve died. If you opt for an unattended cremation, the location of the crematorium will be at the discretion of our Funeral Services Provider.

At the moment, our plans only cover mainland Great Britain. We’d happily support your family with repatriation but that would be an extra cost to your plan.

Great customer service is our heartbeat, so if you’re unhappy, we want to know about it. Let our Customer Team know what’s gone wrong by calling 0800 808 5723 or writing to hello@aura.life and they’ll do everything to put things right as quickly as possible. You can read our Complaints Policy here.

That’s ok. Your next of kin, nominated representative or executor can cancel and have the full payment refunded to your estate.

With Aura funerals, your dedicated Aura Angel will act as your funeral director. They will be your point of contact once you’ve taken out your plan. If it’s included in the plan, they will also help your loved ones arrange a celebration of life after your ashes have been returned to them.

Our team of Aura Angels is built on compassion, knowledge and decades of experience. Think of them like an accessible, modern-day funeral director who’s completely invested in you and your circle. Thinking about death can be scary — no-one should need to do that alone.

Support from an Angel is included with each of our funeral plans. Your Angel is there to listen and make sure that your funeral wishes are heard and understood. After you die, your Angel will work with your circle to help them understand what happens next. When you or any member of your circle calls, we’ll aim to ensure that you speak to the same person every time. The level of Aura Angel support that you’ll get will vary depending on your plan. Please see your plan summary for more details.

The Aura Circle is a place to help you think about death in your own way, at your own pace. With our end-of-life planning tools, you can list wishes or ideas for your funeral, create a digital life story or schedule messages to send to loved ones at a later date.

When you join the Circle you’ll join a community of 30,000 other people who are talking about the things you’re probably wondering about death. You’ll find exclusive content in the Content Hub or you can join our Facebook communities for support around death and grief — just search ‘Death Chat’ and ‘Grief Chat’ on Facebook.

Aura Funerals

It’s a simple, modern, low-cost alternative to a traditional funeral, without the formal ceremony. We collect the deceased, transport them to a mortuary, then on to the crematorium when it’s time.

A cremation is easier and less stressful to arrange. Without all the traditional add-ons it can save you an average of £3,000. You can also organise a memorial or celebration of life at a later date, with help from an Aura Angel.

Yes, you can. Unlike other funeral providers, we leave that up to you. You might want to hold a celebration of life straight after the cremation or perhaps gather your closest family for a private farewell. It’s your choice.

No, unfortunately we don’t offer that. But there is no need for the person who has died to be collected immediately, so if you’d like more time with them in the place they’re currently resting before we collect them, you only need to call us when you’re ready.

Aura hand-delivers ashes in a durable scatter tube.

Yes. After we’ve collected the deceased, you can post your chosen clothing to our mortuary staff. An Aura Angel can help to organise this.

No, our Aura Angels will take care of everything.

Yes, of course. Just call the funeral director and let them know you’d like us to look after you. Remember to settle any outstanding costs and then Aura will arrange to transfer your loved one into our care.

We provide a simple, high-quality, wood-effect coffin for every funeral. This helps to take away some of the emotional stress caused by needing to choose a coffin.

The UK has a strict process around this involving a series of identification checks. The cremator is thoroughly cleaned between each cremation too. Every part of this process is carried out by trained professionals and morticians.

No, absolutely not.

My Aura Account

Aura is free to use for everyone. As part of our philosophy of becoming a movement for change, accessibility for all is key priority. The core features of Aura will always be free, however in the future we may charge for premium features so that we can generate revenue to grow and improve the platform and to maintain the gold standard levels of security that we adopt.

You can permanently delete your Aura account, after which your information cannot be restored. This is a requirement under the GDPR regulations to which we adhere.

To delete your account go to ‘Account Settings’ and select ‘Delete Account’ at the bottom. For security purposes, you will be asked for your password.

If you have an enquiry or would like to speak to a member of our team, we’re available Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm.

It’s advisable to fill in your information over time. If you update your information in small chunks, you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll make progress.

In the event of your death, your Aura account will continue to be available indefinitely to anyone you’ve shared information with.

Your Trusted Person will mark your account as ‘deceased’ and your account becomes a memorial account.

Anyone who has permission can continue to contribute to your Life Story.

About the Company

Aura is a UK private limited company owned by a large number of small investors. This allows the company to have a collaborative, community-based focus and means Aura is independent and free from any commercial bias or constraint.

Aura is a socially conscious, tech-for-good platform. We have a genuine desire to improve people’s end-of-life experience, change the dialogue and lift the taboo around death and dying.

In short, at the moment Aura does not make money, but as the user base grows we’re looking at ways to monetise the platform without compromising the trust amd integrity we have with our users.

We need to generate revenue to re-invest and grow the platform. We are also committed to donating a percentage of our revenue to charity and supporting charities with their own fundraising.

We greatly value the trust our users place in Aura to keep their information safe and secure for the long term. We are committed to protecting the information in your account, no matter what the future holds. You own all of the personal information in your Aura account, and you can download or print your information at any time.

In the unlikely event Aura goes out of business, we are personally committed to ensure our users receive access to a copy of their account information for printing or digital safekeeping elsewhere.

When you purchase an Aura funeral plan, your money is placed into a trust that is managed independently from Aura. We are also an FCA-regulated provider, which means your money is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). To find out more about the solvency of our trust, please click here.

The Aura Platform

Aura can be used by anyone regardless of age. It’s a dynamic planning experience that adapts to your life situation. We will all die someday, so we should give some thought to our end of life wishes.

Aura is particularly helpful for anyone who wants to have the peace of mind to get on with living.

Thinking about death is challenging. We cannot control the circumstances of the end of our lives — however we can prevent our family from having to make difficult decisions without our guidance — thus giving them more peace of mind.

This is why we built Aura: to empower users to create lasting legacies and share end-of-life decisions with the key people in their lives. We help you to get started and enable you to set your own pace.

End-of-life planning is the responsibility of every adult. Making your own plan is one of the more effective ways of encouraging others to do the same.

Share your information with them and set aside time to discuss your wishes. It is then easier for you to say, “We’ve talked about my wishes, but now I really want to know what matters to you. I worry about having to make these decisions for you someday. Aura made it easier for me to plan”.

Aura also helps you to prepare and plan in privacy without having to talk about a subject that many people find difficult.

Many worry that their paper documents might not be found when they are most needed.

Aura is like an online filing cabinet for all of your current end-of-life wishes and information. You can upload any documents you have already prepared.

When you share your Aura profile with your family or friends, they have 24/7 access to your information from a secure cloud. The people you have connected with on Aura will always see the most up-to-date version of your information. Granting or removing their access is simple to do.

You can also download or print hard copies of any planning you do.

You can download or print anything you store in Aura. Likewise, if you share your profile with someone, they can do the same. Your Aura information evolves and lives with you — anything you download or print is time-stamped.

Aura is designed to be used on any device with an internet connection, computers, tablets, or mobile devices.

The website content is created by the Aura team, partner companies and charities with whom Aura works. We also regularly conduct research studies, surveys and interviews with a wide variety of experts in the field.

Our mission is to ensure all content and resources are accurate, up-to-date and easy to understand. We do our best to provide content and resources that are valuable and useful.

Aura Features
