Paul Jameson founded Aura in 2017 with one thing in mind: to provide British families with simple, kind, and compassionate end-of-life planning support. That’s why we treat each and every person we speak to with the same care and respect as we’d want for our own families.

Golden Leaves offers four different burial or cremation funeral plans, each with different things included depending on the option taken. They are the Copper Plan; Copper Plus Plan; Silver Plan; and Gold Plan. Starting prices range from £1,499 to £4,135. As a minimum for each plan, the following elements are included:
Aura’s funeral plans, by comparison, are all-inclusive, and don’t have extra charges depending on when or where in Great Britain you die.
The starting price of a Golden Leaves funeral plan ranges from £1,499 to £4,135. Golden Leaves is a long-established provider of funeral plans which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and they have an independently audited and managed trust. The funds for funeral plans purchased up front, or over one year, are held within this trust, and are given protection by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). As is the same with Aura, this means that, should Golden Leaves go out of business before delivering on your plan, they have an obligation to refund you what you have paid, or transfer your plan to another provider. You may also be eligible for compensation in the event that they are unable to deliver the service you’ve paid for.
If, however, you purchase your Golden Leaves plan via fixed monthly payments over two years or longer (i.e., on credit), the funds are not protected by the Golden Leaves trust. Instead, they are held by an “FCA authorised life assurance company”.
All of Aura’s funeral plan customers, whether they have paid up front or are paying over 12–24 months, have the necessary funds paid into its independently managed, FSCS protected trust.
Yes, they are. Both Golden Leaves and Aura are fully regulated by and authorised by the FCA. It’s one key way in which you can tell whether funeral plans are safe.
Golden Leaves, like Aura, is highly rated by customers, with both companies holding 4.9/5 stars on Trustpilot. However, with expert reviewer site, Fairer Finance, Aura has earned 5/5, where Golden Leaves only has 3/5.
Golden Leaves is part of the Rowland Brothers Group. The company that would grow into Golden Leaves was founded back in 1875 by the Rowland family in Croydon.
Aura, on the other hand, is an independent, family-run business. We were founded by Paul Jameson following a terminal diagnosis, and Aura is run today by Paul, his son David and close family friend, Ben.
You can cancel a Golden Leaves funeral plan, but, if doing so after your 30-day cooling-off period, then it will cost you £299 to do so. Conversely, with an Aura funeral plan, there is no cancellation fee regardless of when you decide to cancel.
